Outdoor Education Adventure (OEA) Camps focus on teaching outdoor science through games and guided inquiry, allowing each participant to come to nature on their own terms. Our staff have a broad range of knowledge about the natural world, and are always looking for teachable moments to engage learners and to cultivate a sense of wonder and curiosity.

Five-year-olds must be in or have completed kindergarten (or equivalent). Younger children should register for our Nature Play Adventures.

Extended Care Options: We are pleased to offer before and after care for our day camps. You may select this option during your camp registration. ***Please note: if you are already signed up for camp and wish to add an extended care option contact us to resister.

    Jan 31 – Owl Adventures at Miller Woods! (No School Day)

    No school day for McMinnville, Newberg, & Yamhill-Carlton

    Ages: 5-12 years

    Bundle up, kids! For this No School Day, we're heading outside to see WHOO spends the winter at Miller Woods. We will use binoculars to search for owls roosting in trees, dissect owl pellets and learn about some of the different types of owls that live around us. As always we will spend time playing games, exploring, and discovering nature's winter wonders.

  • New! Jr Naturalist Program (12-15 years)

    This program is perfect for teens who love the camp experience and are ready for more. Interested teens will fill out an easy application. Those accepted to the program will be required to complete a fun, one-day training and sign up to volunteer for one week of summer camp (additional weeks are possible if space allows). At the end of the summer Jr. Naturalists will be thanked with a special celebration.

    As a Jr Naturalist you will:

    •  Share your curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and nature with the campers.

    •  Build leadership skills assisting campers with nature-focused games, crafts, and activities.

    •  Practice communication skills while assisting camp counselors and directors in preparing and  leading activities.

    •  Learn about local ecology.

  • Nature Play Preschool Adventures

    Ages: 18 months - 5 years Enjoy a nature adventure and learn about the animals and plants living around us. Guided by a naturalist, young adventurers will enjoy beautiful parks, searching for bugs, watching birds, playing games, and telling stories. Nature Play programs take place outdoors in natural spaces around Yamhill County. We will meet at a different park each time. Time 9:30 am – 11:00 am Cost $8 per child, must be accompanied by an adult Dates & Locations

    Spring Break Adventure Camp at Miller Woods

    Spring Break Adventure Camp is two days of exploring the early spring forest and fields. Yep, it's generally wet and muddy, but kids have a great time searching for and learning about all of the animals that are returning to the area as well as the plants that are just waking up after a cold winter. We will spend a little time learning about, searching for and collecting some of the edible plants that grow around Miller Woods. As always we will spend time playing games, exploring, and making discoveries.

    Ever wondered how to predict the weather without looking at "weather.com"? We will spend the day watching clouds, dodging raindrops, soaking up the sun, or all three. We might even play in some snow. It is April, after all!     July 20-24 – Slip, Slither, & Slide Summer Adventure Day Camp

    Metsker County Park is a very special place. With secret waterfalls, secluded swimming holes, an elephant tree, and a small, shallow lake full of aquatic life, it is enchanting. It is also only open to educational programs.

    During this week of camp we will learn some amazing facts about our most common reptiles and amphibians, which we likely be able to observe in the wild. We will also play lots of games, splash in the creek, and explore the park.

    Have you ever tried to change the course of flowing water or measured how fast it is moving? We will take advantage of the creek access provided at Metsker County Park to discover the nature of water, build and race boats in the river, construct dams, and hike through the creek. Camp adventurers will be encouraged to push themselves safely as they explore the secrets of this park, learn teamwork and various aspects of natural science, and think creatively.

    Aug 31-Sept 4 – Shadow Puppets Summer Adventure Day Camp

    Ages: 5-12 years

    Our last summer camp of the year is a slightly more artistic, creative camp. Participants will not only spend the week exploring nature, but will allow their imagination to shine, too. Mixed in with playing games and exploring the park we will create a shadow puppet skit and shadow puppets. At the end of the week, we'll celebrate with an evening community party at Wortman Park in McMinnville where campers will perform their shadow puppet story.

    Dates: Monday - Friday, August 31 - September 4 with a Family Shadow Puppet Show Friday evening (attendance optional)
